What I Eat In A Day On Holiday

Oh summer. You're so far away and aside from the glorious weather and everyone being in a way better mood, I miss my blatant overindulgences: ice cream, BBQ's and cocktails at noon. So here's a trip down a sunny memory lane, when I was in Majorca and stuffing my face.

To my credit I was good as well. I was active and always started the day with a healthy breakfast. In fact, Dharma Cafe in Alcudia Pueblo was my favourite hot spot for healthy breakfasts and brunches.

After breakfast it was pure holiday vibes with chocolate and more paella than you could shake a stick at.

Active Escape In Majorca

This is a throwback to an active escape in Alcudia Pueblo, Majorca in June. Alcudia is Majorca's old town, about one hour from Palma airport by coach which has loads of nice bars and restaurants and is pretty quiet at night.

From the old town we cycled and then trekked to an abandoned beach called, Coll Baix, spent a full day at Port D'Alcudia Beach playing beach ball games and went cave diving, snorkling and kayaking in Mal Pas beach.

All activities, food and accommodation was fairly low cost so all in all, a very happy holiday. Press play to see some of the action for yourself.

How To Stay Fit & Fresh | Perspirex

I've got a new BFF that is always there for me and never let's me down. It goes by the name of Perspirex, an anti perspirant that comes in the smallest of packages yet keeps me smelling fresher for longer.

Firstly, I've not been desperately seeking a new anti perspirant but I do like to change it every few months to ensure my pits don't become immune to my current one.

Secondly, Perspirex Original and Comfort costs £8.49. With that price tag tag, I thought that it must be pretty special and require special treatment. I wasn't wrong. 

It comes with precise application instructions and my initial reaction to this revelation was *yawn* but luckily it’s pretty straight forward. All you need to do is;

  • Apply it before bed to clean, dry and unbroken skin

  • wake up and shower as usual. No need to re-apply.

  • Smell fresh despite having not re-applied for up to 3-5 days

Obviously this sounds far too good to be true so I put it to the test in the sweatiest of workout sessions  (the Third Space Elevation Challenge) to see just how good this under armour is.

During my fitness challenge  I did  1 speedy kilometre on the rowing machine, followed by burning 50 calories as fast as I could on a bike, a 1km run and then finished it off with 10 burpees.

It was just under twenty minutes of sweat-inducing exercise yet my agreeable odour lasted. I then went to shower, didn’t re-apply and was still smelling AOK. Seriously! I even got my mate Chris to give me a sniff test and he approved of my “aroma” too.  

Perspirex Sensitive

Perspirex is a great way to protect yourself if ever you forget your anti perspirant and is small enough to pop in your hand luggage when travelling. It is even clinically proven to reduce skin irritation under your arms which in my opinion makes it a bonafide magic stick. Now that’s how to stay fit and fresh without even having to say “abracadabra”. Enjoy!

4 Ways To Better Rest & Recovery

Who loves feeling great? I know I do but most of us miss out on that 'feel good' factor because we don't give our bodies the TLC it yearns. I guarantee you that dedicating additional time to four simple categories of sleep, stretching, hydration and nutrition will increase your energy levels, decrease your recovery time between workouts and most importantly, lower your risk of injury. So what are you waiting for? Kickass and hop onto the happy road of rest and recovery in just 4 simple steps.

High Kick

1. Sleep

Sleep is the most important time to recover in order to repair your muscles and to aid your mental and hormonal wellbeing. Everyone's got different needs based on our different lifestyles but try to get at least 7 hours of good kip per night. 

2. Stretching

This is key! You need enough flexibility to move well and remain pain and injury free before, during and after your workouts. Include dynamic stretching in your warm-ups while saving static stretching for after your workouts. Below are my favourites.

3. Hydration

Drinking more water is vital for your health, good energy levels, better sports performance and recovery. In fact it aids all of our functions, including our digestive system. The simplest way to check hydration is to look at your pee. If it is clear to pale yellow (without having drank alcohol) you are hydrated. The darker in colour of your urine the less hydrated you are and the more water you need to drink. Headaches and drowsiness are also tell tale signs of dehydration.

How much water you should drink depends on the level of activity that you engage in, your physical health, your height and weight and whether it’s a hot day or not but I would always recommend that drinking water little and often is the best way to stay hydrated.

4. Nutrition

Everything we eat has the ability to make us feel great or make us feel awful and whilst I don't like to recommend a specific diet, it's proven that eating clean and balanced meals in moderation is effective to remaining healthy, improving our sports performance and aiding our bodies recovery process.

I know eating well in our society is not always easy as we go out to dinner, we grab lunch on the go and most social events have food. The key is achieving balance so you get the results you want but can also enjoy life. So my advice is to plan your meals as much as possible, try to choose restaurants with healthy food choices when eating out and have a go at making my smoothie recipe below for healthy fats, nutrients and an energy boost as a post workout treat:

When I go to the gym I may well do a HIIT training session followed by a yoga class to get a deeper post workout stretch.
