WIN! Speedo H2O Active Swimwear Range

Swimming. It’s not really my thing. I nearly drowned when I was younger and have been scared of the deep end ever since. In fact even the shallow end makes my knees knock. So when Speedo asked me to travel to Majorca and try their new H2OActive range it wasn’t a decision I wanted to dive into.  But after some deliberation I decided to take the plunge and confront my fears as every expert starts as a beginner and you have to start somewhere!  That, and the fact it was in sunny Majorca.  If it had been a coach trip to Margate Lido I don’t think I’d be starting at all.

On shoot I learnt lots about the benefits of working out in the water and how adding it could really compliment my current routine. It works muscles I never even knew I had! Moving some of my favourite HIIT moves into the water meant I burned just as many calories (possibly more because of the resistance) as on land but with the added bonus of reducing the risk of injury and not looking like a sweaty mess.

Since then I have been learning week by week to swim and I’m making great progress but the progress wouldn’t have been as quick if it wasn’t with the help of a few friends.  I’m having 1-to-1 lessons with Swim For Tri, attending group swim clubs (Swim Dem Crew is my fave) and partaking in Aquaphysical Float Fit Class for strengthening exercises on top of the water.

Aquaphysical Float Class

Practising in a group is great as I’m still a little nervous to go swimming alone.  I’d feel like I’d want to make sure the life guard was looking at me the whole time- nudge nudge.  It’s also fun to hang out with new faces week in and week out to discover that I’m not the only adult who swims like a seal trying to breakdance .

Speedo Fit With Friends

I have been practising my strokes wearing the new Speedo H2O Active range and it’s great for a number of reasons

1. It's Vibrant & VERSATILE

Style and function belong together and so with the multiple back strap details, H2O Active range is supportive enough for you to workout both in and out of water. It’s bright, bold, mix and match range can be paired to match your mood and your workout.

2. It’s eco friendly

Thanks to the partnership between Speedo and Aquafil, it is now possible for the fabric to include 78% ECONYL yarn, a nylon fibre made from regenerated plastics including abandoned fishing nets that might otherwise harm animals in the ocean.

Eco Friendly H2O Active range

Figures show that 20% of global waste comes from the textile and clothing industry, and with Speedo’s help there has been a 21% increase in recycled, non-hazardous waste. The fabric is durable, lasting twice as long as standard swimwear, is  resistant to chlorine, suncream, oils and holds it's shape well too, making it perfect for multi fitness needs.

3. You Can BE BODY CONFIDENT

With cropped leggings, high necklines and a range that you can layer, H2O Active is a range fit for any shape or size. It's even good for nervous swimmers like me.

Ministry Does Fitness with Primark

Ministry Of Sound in London with it's epic club nights has been making people move since the 90s.  Now it has upped the action with the launch of a new slick gym space called, (no not Ministry Of Fit) Ministry Does Fitness. It has a variety of strength, cardio and yoga classes, a banging playlist (naturally) and a bar that offers a lot more than just protein shakes.

Skinny Prosecco

I took to The Arches to experience it's Ministry Of Sweat to test out the new Primark fit kit which is summery, pretty, affordable and, as I thoroughly road tested, can handle sweat in its stride.  Exercising has become the new clubbing for fitness enthusiasts like me, if only there were more bachelors to buy my Lucozades.

Primark Fitness Clothing

During the strengthening circuit class my Primark fit kit passed a few of my all important tests: the supportive test; my sports bra fit correctly and my little bumps stayed put.

Bear Crawls Primark

The squat test; leggings didn't fall down when I was bear crawling, squatting and running so my underwear stayed well and truly, underwear.

And the stretch test: comfortable to wear and flex in.

Shoulder stretch Primark

Great class, nice clothing and fun with all my mates. Who fancies a gym and tonic?

Where To Eat In London | West Thirty Six

Situated in the heart of West London by Notting Hill, West Thirty Six is an all-day grill house and cocktail lounge and I swung by there for a delicious lunch with a couple of my girl friends, Mollie and Chloe.

The venue is beautiful, featuring  an open grill, quirky lounge spaces and an incredible roof terrace, the latter being where my friends and I dined.

I ordered the salad, lamb cuttles and chocolate bar and peanut crunch which was all, sensational. If only pictures could capture  the wonderful flavours on my palette. Luckily, food envy wasn't a problem as I sampled the girls's lemon sole and chicken dishes too which were equally as pleasant. The salads are sexy, chips are chunky and West thirty Six plays the likes of Alicia Keys in the back ground. My idea of heaven.

Whether it's a dinner date venue you're after, a relaxed environment for a business meeting or simply somewhere to pop in for a drink, this venue ticks a lot of boxes. I think this just might be my new favourite place.

Let me know if you know of any other nice places to eat in London. I'd love to try them.

Lots of foodie love, AJ

Nike Women's 10KM Race | London

Today,  London was one of 20 cities across the globe to host a race as part of the Nike Women’s Race Series. This was a 10KM race in Victoria Park London, with a clear message; To unite us women and enable us to experience and celebrate the power of sport together.

I wrote a blog post in the lead up to this race (which you can read by clicking here), where I said that my running crew and I would start together, run together and finish together but in truth, we couldn't even find each other. We had all entered different waves with varying start times and so I adopted a new run crew member, Cythia Erivo, (not to mention the 10,000 other super women running behind, in front and alongside me).

Pre-race selfie done, we picked up our feet and ran! The race was really well sign posted with incredible words of encouragement on placards, spectators and live music throughout the 10KM course.

For me, crossing the finish line is always the best part of any race. That huge sense of achievement is indescribable and today I stopped to notice a sea of women giving congratulatory hugs to one another. It was really special.

Post race we collected our medals in the form of an exclusive Alex Monroe necklace, before being greeted by a glass of champagne and a Birch Box post race pamper kit. Had I have known all of these treats were waiting for me at the finish line, I'd have certainly ran faster.

Soon after it was time to eat and enjoy the live DJ sets on offer, one of which was by my friend and BBC Radio 1 DJ, Clara Amfo who was playing the likes of Kelis, N.E.R.D and all the crowd pleasers.

Ladies, today we came, we saw and we conquered. I couldn't be more proud to be a woman. Here's to many happy more run's together. #WeRunLondon
