New Look Fit Kit

There’s nothing like a brand new fit kit to incentivise your workouts.  Thanks to the nice people at New Look I’m now covered in bold prints, matching co-ords and slogan tees which are light and comfortable. New Look has managed to create a range that is performance focused whilst looking completely awesome and very ‘now’, and what’s more, I got to be apart of their campaign video!

The shoot was one of my favourites I’ve done in ages for many reasons. For one, I got to hang out with two of my best fit friends Adrienne and Kim. Adrienne taught me a badass dance routine in between takes. If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen on my story.

Then, I got to punch a bag. I never knew I’d feel so smug afterwards!  That bag will think twice now before giving me a dirty look.

Plus, I got to take home my favourite pieces from the collection, including the Marble Print Leggings and top below.

Life’s too short for a boring fit kit and I think New Look got the memo. What do you think of the collection?

Reebok + Les Mills ONE LIVE | Manchester

What happens when thousands of people gather under one roof to exercise? Something magical!

The world's largest provider of choreographed exercise to music, group fitness classes, Les Mills and Reebok teamed up to create ONE LIVE, a global fitness tour and I was lucky enough to be asked to be apart of it as a host.

Presenter AJ Odudu

I joined in the fitness fun on the day of the ONE LIVE UK tour finale in Manchester and as a newbie to this event, I wasn’t fully sure what to expect other than a sea of people doing exercise classes. It was that but also, so much more.

Body Combat

Thousands of people arrived at Manchester Central on a Saturday morning, ready to punch, dance, flex, and zen their way through eight hours of group exercise and the atmosphere was electric. It was so uplifting to see so many people come together, thoroughly excited to work out.

ONE LIVE Manchester

People queued and ran into classes, just so that they could be at the front of the class to see some of the worlds most elite instructors and whilst the attendees were a range of instructors, fitness newbies, men and women of different ages and abilities,  everyone there was so dedicated and happy to be working out alongside one another. Needless to say there was a real sense of camaraderie.

The classes ranged from Yoga to dance, cycling to aerobics and even weight training classes, all under the Les Mills titles of Body Attack, Body Jam, Sprint, GRIIT etc. The workout timetable was jam packed and I wondered how on earth, everyone would have the stamina  to partake in so many classes. Somehow, all attendees had this contagious energy.  I was buzzing too! Gotta love them Endorphins.

Now, be prepared for a gushy moment. My highlight of the day was welcoming the Body Pump team onto stage in front of hundreds of people before partaking in the class myself. The energy was electric and I loved every squat, lunge and bicep curl. That many people in one room moving in unison felt empowering and at the end of the class all I wanted was to do it all over again, and I wasn't the only one.

Thousands of people across the UK have already experienced the electric atmosphere of the Les Mills and Reebok ONE LIVE tour. Now the ONE LIVE magic has seeped into my veins forever. I'm proud to have been apart of such a spectacular event and I'm excited for more fitness action next year. Bring it on!

Top 5 Winter Fit Tips

Winter makes most of us want to snuggle up in bed but sadly, hibernating isn't going to keep us fit. Here's how I exercise to beat the winter blues.

Nike Zip Top

1. Wrap Up Warm

I still enjoy outdoor workouts if I get the right fit kit. Lightweight windbreakers, thermal leggings and lightweight gloves that keep your paws warm without getting sweaty are the answer to all my workouts. There are even long sleeved tops that cover the palms of your hands if gloves aren't for you.

Sit Ups

2. Workout At Home

I personally love going for a brisk winter run in the fresh, cold air but for those days when leaving the house is all too much, I stick on an exercise DVD or playlist a load of YouTube workout videos and do that for 30-60 mins 3 times a week. The benefit of exercising this way is that you can do it in the comfort of your own home. The difficulty with exercising this way is that it can always be put off until another day. I suggest scheduling it into your diary to reduce the chance of avoiding your work out.

3. Get stretching

For a mood enhancing fix try yoga. It's not all about being flexible (thankfully). In fact, it helps to combat fatigue whilst strengthening your body. If (like me) you often find being in a silent room full of tree poses very dull, try a class that plays music while you flex or, if you really need an incentive to brave the cold weather, take up hot yoga. Either way, it's sure to increase your energy levels, realise some tension and strengthen and tone your entire body. Three cheers for Namaste!

4. Make a music playlist

Let's face it, you need to be in the right frame of mind to workout. Playlist a bunch of songs that make you feel happy, strong and invincible and crank it up just before you workout. Beyonce's Run the World, M.I.A's Bring the Noize, Missy Elliot's Lose Control and the theme tune from Rocky- You're the Best NEVER fail me so...press play.

5. Workout with friends

Sign up to a workout class with a friend or few and turn it into a social event. After most of my workouts I often catch up with friends over a healthy smoothie, a post-workout protein shake or a healthy brunch. It's a great way to get fit, get chatting and eat food. What's not to love?!

The London Gherkin Challenge | NSPCC

Have you ever tried tower running? No? Me neither, until today.

I along with hundreds of other fundraisers ran up 1,037 steps inside one of London's most iconic buildings, the Swiss Re Tower, affectionately known as the Gherkin, to raise money for the NSPCC.

Gherkin Challenge NSPCC

I was really looking forward to the event as I'd never been inside the Gherkin before. It's only open to the public occasionally and when it is, the queues are seriously long. Naturally I thought that running up 38 floors for charity was the best way to experience this famous masterpiece from the inside, and I wasn't wrong.

The only race preparation I did was listen to Miley Cyrus's single, It's The Climb, Ain't No Mountain High Enough by Diana Ross and Step On by Happy Mondays. That playlist was I needed at the start line and with a smile on my face, up I went.

The London Gherkin Tower

Although going up 180 vertical metres was a lot tougher than I imagined (the last few hundred steps were leg-sappingly uncomfortable and spiralling up 38 floors made me feel extremely dizzy) I enjoyed the elation that I felt when I reached the top to rapturous applause, a glass of champagne, Panoramic views of London and of course, the knowledge that it was all for a good cause.

Soon my stiff legs were being massaged and I got chatting to others. Through conversation I found out there's actually a vertical world circuit, with runners racing up skyscrapers including the Empire State Building in New York, The Sydney Tower in Australia and the 2,046 steps of Taipei 101 in Taiwan. Having just accomplished my very first vertical race, I felt inspired to add some of those global races to my bucket list...just not before I had taken the lift back downstairs.

The run was over surprisingly quick for me (8 minutes 12 seconds to be precise) but it wasn't about fastest times, with finishers reaching the summit in anywhere between 6 and 45 minutes and I am now proud to call myself a Gherkinneer! With a jar of pickled gherkins to prove it!
