SIMPLE GYM SKINCARE ROUTINE

Whether you’re a high-intensity city worker who likes to pound pedals during a 6am spin class or a super chilled yoga-bunny who ends the day with some Vinyasa Flow, we all share one workout in common- lugging around a heavy gym bag! 

Since you can’t really discard your trainers and sports bra other areas need to be streamlined to alleviate some strain.  Having the right beauty products means when you’re exiting your kickboxing class you look like someone who’s about to walk on stage, not someone who’s been avoiding flying kicks. 1. PRE-WORKOUT CLEANSE

The Beginners Guide To Aerial Yoga

Anti-Gravity or Aerial Yoga uses silk hammocks to support your body and suspend you in mid air allowing you to do challenging stretches you’ve never done before.  It’s like being a trapeze artist without the threat of plummeting to your death in front of a large crowd of people, which is good with me.

I absolutely loved my first Aerial Yoga class at The London Dance Academy and so thought I’d share my 4-step guide to aerial yoga for beginners. Get ready to fly!

STEP 1. Don’t Eat Or Drink Within 2 Hours Before Class 

In class you’ll be twisting, turning, hanging upside down, swinging and literally spreading your legs. Avoid feeling queasy by taking it easy on the food before class.

STEP 2. Sit Back

Postures that look like they’re not of great benefit are doing more than you think. My favourite one was the chair pose which is said to help relieve lower back pain and improve posture.

 STEP 3. Try Every Posture

It’s easy to look at certain demonstrations and doubt that you’d be able to do it but you shouldn’t feel intimidated. Moves that look intricate to begin with are quite often the postures that you find yourself in seconds later as the teacher takes you through them step-by-step. There’s a lot of room for progression and poses that you find difficult on the floor become much easier in the hammock. I mean just check out my upside down dancer pose; I couldn’t do this on the floor!

4. Don’t Be Afraid To Let Go

There were certainly times in class that I strongly doubted that the harness was going to be able to carry my 10.5 stones of body weight and instead rip the ceiling down.  I like to take the roof off when DJing but when it’s your body mass that’s responsible it’s just embarrassing.  Thankfully, the harness is designed to hold up to 2000lbs in weight which is the equivalent to 10 baby elephants, though holding any more than 4 elephants at a time means the range of positions they can do is extremely limited. So as the Frozen princess sings: Let It Go!

How To Stay Fit & Fresh | Perspirex

I've got a new BFF that is always there for me and never let's me down. It goes by the name of Perspirex, an anti perspirant that comes in the smallest of packages yet keeps me smelling fresher for longer.

Firstly, I've not been desperately seeking a new anti perspirant but I do like to change it every few months to ensure my pits don't become immune to my current one.

Secondly, Perspirex Original and Comfort costs £8.49. With that price tag tag, I thought that it must be pretty special and require special treatment. I wasn't wrong. 

It comes with precise application instructions and my initial reaction to this revelation was *yawn* but luckily it’s pretty straight forward. All you need to do is;

  • Apply it before bed to clean, dry and unbroken skin

  • wake up and shower as usual. No need to re-apply.

  • Smell fresh despite having not re-applied for up to 3-5 days

Obviously this sounds far too good to be true so I put it to the test in the sweatiest of workout sessions  (the Third Space Elevation Challenge) to see just how good this under armour is.

During my fitness challenge  I did  1 speedy kilometre on the rowing machine, followed by burning 50 calories as fast as I could on a bike, a 1km run and then finished it off with 10 burpees.

It was just under twenty minutes of sweat-inducing exercise yet my agreeable odour lasted. I then went to shower, didn’t re-apply and was still smelling AOK. Seriously! I even got my mate Chris to give me a sniff test and he approved of my “aroma” too.

Perspirex is a great way to protect yourself if ever you forget your anti perspirant and is small enough to pop in your hand luggage when travelling. It is even clinically proven to reduce skin irritation under your arms which in my opinion makes it a bonafide magic stick. Now that’s how to stay fit and fresh without even having to say “abracadabra”. Enjoy!
